The Refuse Division is responsible for collection and disposal of residential waste for citizens of the City of St. Louis. The Refuse Division also coordinates efforts to reduce the amount of waste going to landfills, such as recycling, composting, and waste reduction.

To Qualify
You MUST live in the City of St. Louis. Only one load per month - Refuse/Bulk/Yard Waste items free of charge at the transfer station.
Provide Proof of Residency
You MUST have a City address on both driver’s license and, water or utility bill. MUST have Missouri plates on all vehicles – NO EXCEPTIONS – Vehicles that display businesses such as carpenters, electricians, construction, roofing, plumbing, concrete work, maintenance man, hauling, etc. will not be allowed to dump.
Resident Dumping Hours & Locations
- Residents may dump between 9:00A.M. AND 4:00 P.M. Monday-Saturday
- The North Transfer Station is located at 201 North Humboldt, 63147
- The South Transfer Station is located at 4100 South First Street, 63118

Rules
Load Size
- NO larger than a load which could be carried in a ˝ ton pick up truck {Dimensions: 5 feet X 8 feet X 4 feet high}.
- NO modified pickups or trailers.
- NO combination of loaded truck and trailer.
- NO dump trucks or enclosed trucks except passenger vans (U-Haul must meet dimension requirement).
- NO vehicles with sideboards, railings, or stake bodies.
Other Rules
- All refuse must be household type waste and coming from a City residence.
- Residents may dump only one load per month (per truck or per driver).
- Residents will place their loads in containers as directed by the foreman.
- Anyone suspected of hauling for hire will be rejected.
- Any load which appears to be commercial waste will be rejected.
- Refuse from charities, churches, or other non-profit organizations will not be accepted.
- Refuse from any business will not be accepted.
We Will NOT Accept:
- Waste generated or originating outside the City of St. Louis City limits.
- Commercial or business waste
- Off-road or tractor trailer size truck tires
- Drums, barrels or tanks
- Compressed gas cylinders
- Explosives
- Radioactive waste
- Weapons of any sort
- Dirt
- Asbestos
- Dead animals
- Antifreeze
- Office machines
- Auto parts
- Liquid waste
- Enclosed containers
- Large demolition debris
- Industrial parts or machinery
- Chemicals
- Flammable materials
- Sand
- Gasoline or any container used to store gasoline
- Fuel oil
- Heating oil
- Kerosene
- Medical waste
- Infectious waste
- Any item not normally found in any household.
Recycling
Please recycle aluminum beverage and food cans, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and jars, steel/tin beverage and food cans, paper (e.g., junk mail, magazines, mixed office paper, newspaper), and corrugated cardboard (including chipboard/paperboard like cereal boxes and carrier stock like beer cartons). We WILL Accept:
Loads must be inspected by the foreman or his designee.
- Appliances (refrigerators, stoves, etc.
- Residential building construction, and demolition materials (bricks, drywall, plaster, shingles, etc.)
- Ashes
- Automotive batteries
- Scrap metal
- Bedding
- Shrubs and tree limbs – no larger than 6 inches in diameter and 4 feet long
- Bulk items (household furniture, sofas, etc.)
- Christmas / holiday trees
- Street sweepings, rubbish, trash
- Garbage, household waste, refuse
- Motor oil, cooking oil
- Household items
- Windows (glass, aluminum, vinyl, wood)
- Yard and green waste
- Wood scraps
THE CITY OF ST. LOUIS RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REJECT ANY LOADS
