WELCOME

From Jeff Serocke, Chair, St. Louis Workforce Investment Board

I am honored and pleased to chair the Workforce Investment Board (WIB) for the
City of St. Louis.

I first became involved with the St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment over a decade ago through Marriott’s successful “Pathways to Independence” program.  I saw firsthand the vital role SLATE plays in bringing together job seekers, private businesses and the area’s many community based organizations.  Not long afterwards, I agreed to serve on SLATE’s Board, and have subsequently participated on the Fiscal and Strategic Planning Committees and the Executive Board.

Since that time, SLATE has changed locations, immediate needs and legislative agendas have been altered, and the St. Louis community continues to evolve.  Through it all, however, the WIB has faced the same challenges: to give workers the skills and tools they need to find and keep the right job.  We are dedicated to helping St. Louisans become self-sufficient, and to help them achieve true career fulfillment now and into the future.

Under my tenure as Chair, the WIB will continue to achieve these objectives by focusing on our existing strategic priority areas: to increase earnings, improve retention rates, and strengthen individual skill levels.  I look forward to listening and talking to everyone at SLATE – staff members, volunteers, partners and my fellow WIB members, and working with all of you to build a prepared workforce and a thriving St. Louis.

Jeff Serocke is the Multi-Unit Director of Human Resources for the Renaissance Grand & Suites and the St. Louis Airport Marriott Hotel in St. Louis.
