Workforce Investment act |
|
The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) was implemented on July 1, 2000. It is federal legislation designed to unify a broad spectrum of employment, education, and training programs, services, and governance structures on the state and local levels; and to promote coordination so customers can access a more streamlined and integrated system of workforce investment partners in a One-Stop Career Center environment. Although there is a core of federally mandated partners, State and Local Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) are given more authority and flexibility than in the past to create systems that speak specifically to the needs of the communities they serve. Collaboration is key, and the Board-made up of public and private sector partners, is able to network with many service agencies including metropolitan planning and economic development organizations, nonprofit and community partners, a wide range of groups who work with youth, business leaders and educators. The Workforce Investment Board develops strategic planning and policy development goals for the Career Center and strives to provide opportunity for both job seekers and employers in St. Louis City and the larger metro region. Our continuing success helps maintain the region's distinction as the economic leader in the state. We seek to empower individuals by offering resources and activities designed to meet the needs of the many and various customers who visit our facility. |
