2009 JFL MONDAY
NIGHT FOOTBALL
Youth football, coming to a neighborhood near you.
STL TV, KPLR-11 Take JFL Games To Metro Area
Grab the coolers and the barbeques, it’s time for tailgating
and some action packed football again! Monday Night Football is back
and even better for players who can bake and shake like the NFL players
but are half their size.
STL TV, the City’s local government access channel, is partnering
with the St. Louis Junior Football League again to produce and televise
the “2009 JFL Monday Night Games.”
This year the JFL celebrates 50 years in the community and what better
way to celebrate than to display some of St. Louis’ finest talents
on STL TV and, for the first time, on KPLR-11. This is a new partnership
that STL TV has developed so the games can be seen throughout the
metro area.
The first Monday night game of the 2009 season will be Sept. 14. The
games are taped on Monday nights and will be aired at 1 p.m. Saturdays
on KPLR-11. City residents can see the broadcast on STL TV at 8 p.m.
Wednesday; 6 a.m. Thursdays; 8:30 p.m. Fridays; 5:30 p.m. Saturdays;
1 p.m. Sundays; 9 p.m. Mondays and 1 p.m. Tuesdays. STL TV programming
is also streamed live on the web, so if there are family members or
friends out of the St. Louis Metro Area who would like to view the
games they can visit www.stltv.net.
“We are always excited about promoting the positive programs
that our youth are participating in and the JFL has been successful
in providing that for 50 years. And they have produced NFL stars.
In 2006, the New England Patriots selected Laurence Maroney, a former
Herbert Hoover football player, as their number one draft pick. This
year, Jeremy Maclin, the wide-receiver from the University of Missouri,
was the 19th pick in the NFL draft. Maclin began his football career
in the JFL. We know that every kid won’t make it to the NFL,
but the coaches in this league help these players build character
and teach them the importance of teamwork and discipline, which are
key to become successful in life,” said Andre Holman, STL TV
Video Production Manager and Executive Producer of the games.
The JFL has been a fixture in the St. Louis area and is continuing
to grow and expand. In 2006, the JFL consisted of only nine organizations
from the metro area: St. Louis City Recreation, Berkeley, Florissant
RYA, Herbert Hoover, Kirkwood, BCLC (McCluer), Mathews-Dickey, Metro
Youth and University City. Now, the JFL has added even more organizations
in the league, which means there are more youths participating in
organized football in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
“Three years ago, the JFL organization told us that they wanted
to do something special so they decided to incorporate Monday Night
Football into the league schedule. They picked the best rivalries
within the league, which features teams of 7 to 14 year-old players.
STL TV was asked to provide a network-quality broadcasts of their
games, complete with two play-by-play announcers, instant replays
and even the head shots that introduce the players,” Holman
said. “The games were a big hit with our viewers and we expect
it to be even better this season.”
The sponsors, Bommarito Automotive Group, Ameren UE, National City,
Carpenters’ District Council, and St. Louis Job Corps make it
possible for STL TV to be able to provide this type of television
coverage.
