The Pavement Marking Section of the Traffic Division installs and maintains crosswalks, lane lines, center lines, pavement messages, arrows, and stop bars. Equipment operated by this section includes two paint liners (one 17 years old and one 3 years old) and four hand liners (two conventional and two airless).

Thermoplastic has been used since 1989 and is four times more durable than paint.

The Traffic Striping Section maintains the paint on between 175 and 200 signals a year. The seven painters in the section occasionally provide labor for privately financed projects to improve and beautify the city. For example, they repainted the bridge at Grand and Chouteau Avenues with paint provided by St. Louis University.
