St. James School

There is only one school that is actually within the boundries of Clayton-Tamm and it is the St. James the Greater Catholic Elementary School. It is located in our well-known family-oriented Dogtown neighborhood between I44 and Highway 40(I-64), and just blocks from Forest Park, St. James has easy access to downtown and Clayton. Its convenient location allows the students to benefit from St. Louis' most revered cultural institutions - St. Louis Art Museum, zoo, History Museum, and Science Center. It is a progressive Catholic elementary education with a community environment in the city of St. Louis. The focus of the dedicated faculty and staff at St. James the Greater is to provide a comprehensive education that successfully prepares students for continuing education at secondary schools of their choice. Many special programs are offered to allow students to develop to their best potential, including: individualized academic attention, IBM compatible/Microsoft computer lab, enrichment activities, multi-cultural activities, and a newly expanded library. More than 99 percent of St. James graduates continue their education at private secondary schools.

A Caring Community - St. James fosters and develops the Christian way of living in each child. By providing dedicated caring teachers, staff, outside professionals, and parish volunteers, St. James school is committed to the academic and spiritual growth of all children.

Extracurricular Activities - Extracurricluar activities provide the opportunity for St. James students to broaden their elementary experiences and develop socially. At St. James, all students are encouraged to participate in various programs such as speech, music and scouting. St. James is proud of its wide variety of interscholastic sports that emphasizes teamwork and athletic development.

They have many programs including: after school care, band and music, fine arts, foreign language, and a resource room with a learning consultant. They teach pre-K through eigth grades and have financial aid available.
