If Spring fever has you looking for a new home, this time consider Downtown. The exciting sounds and sights of construction are evident in every direction, and the array of housing opportunities has blossomed too much for just one visit. Open today, and at next week's Downtown Open House, is 1221 Hadley, a new single-family home, and a wonderful variety of new lofts, condos and apartments. There's a choice for every budget, with sales prices ranging from $ 80,000 to $ 400,000 and rentals from $ 500 to $ 3000 per month.
Open today (Sunday April 21 2002) from Noon-4:00 p.m., 1221 Hadley is a brand-new 3,000 square foot single-family home located in a beautifully landscaped, gated community near the Shrine of St. Joseph. This house has the best of both worlds: a quiet subdivision setting near the excitement of downtown. Two other lots are available for custom built homes, and builder M.G. Singleton is at work on a fourth custom-built house nearby.
The charming front porch of 1221 Hadley invites a leisurely stop. With a low-maintenance exterior and common area landscaping, there's more time to enjoy life. Come inside to see the 9' ceilings and hardwood floors. The gourmet kitchen, with great appliances like a Thermidor Convection oven, is adjacent to the family room, complete with fireplace and built-in entertainment center.
The master suite has a Jacuzzi tub and separate shower, with skylights and a 12' vaulted bedroom ceiling. Two more bedrooms with a full bath are also located on the 2nd floor. Large thermal windows bring in lots of sunshine. The partially finished lower level has a hobby area, study or bedroom, and an optional third bath. A double tuck-under garage provides the ultimate in convenience. This beautiful home is priced at $ 250,000. Contact Re/Max Associates agent Barbara Sullivan Mangogna at (314) 440-3392. To reach 1221 Hadley from Tucker, go east on Cole, turn left on 11th St., left on Carr, right on Hadley.
Today's sneak preview includes several sites from next week's Downtown Open House. The Terra Cotta Lofts at 15th and Locust, the Louderman Building at 11th and Locust, and the Elder Shirt Building at 13th and Lucas, are all open today. Then on Saturday, April 27, the Downtown St. Louis Partnership will sponsor its Downtown Open House from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Registration is at 1533 Washington, and tickets are $ 10 per person. It's our first opportunity to see the incredible Merchandise Mart Apartments, renovated by Historic Restoration, Inc., developer of the new Convention Center Hotel.
The 15 building tour also includes occupied units, showing how people live downtown, from Mansion House on the riverfront to the University Lofts, W.S. on Washington, and Knickerbocker Lofts on Washington Avenue, to the Edison Condominiums, New Jefferson Arms, and newly renovated Plaza Square Apartments on the western side of downtown. Last year's tour drew 700 people to see what's new in downtown living. Along the way, enjoy the "Shades of Spring Festival 2002" in Lucas Park, near Washington Ave. Live entertainment, art, children's activities from the Downtown Children's Center, great food, and a gardening show will fill the park from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Across from the park, Christ Church Cathedral welcomes special guest, retired Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
