House of the Month
2921 Michigan

If you've dreamed of living the urban lifestyle, close to "Grand South Grand", with its restaurants and shops, surrounded by the historic Tower Grove Neighborhoods of South St. Louis, this may be the house of your dreams. Today's City of St. Louis "House of the Month" is 2921 Michigan. Today's event also features a second renovated home next door on the 2900 block of Michigan, just north of Arsenal and Gravois in the Tower Grove East Neighborhood. Both homes will be open today from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.

In just two years, Millennium Restoration and Development Inc. has completed and sold two luxury townhouses on South Compton Ave., as well as a restored 3-story single-family home, designated by Landmarks Association of St. Louis as one of their "Most Enhanced Sites" for the year 2000 and also a Homebuilders Association "Homer Award" Winner. These successes have led to townhouses on Russell Boulevard and on Ann Ave. Millennium Restoration is also planning a condominium project for the historic building at the corner of Michigan and Pestalozzi, just doors away from today's featured houses.

Each of these newly rehabilitated homes has been transformed from an outdated two-family flat to a spacious 1500 sq. ft. single-family home with two large bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, a formal dining room, large modern kitchen, and many features of much more expensive homes. Original hardwood floors have been retained in the living and dining rooms, and the woodwork has been re-milled, stained and varnished in the original style. The living room features a beautiful fireplace with mahogany mantel. Solid wood front doors feature stained glass and carefully researched historic style.

Brand-new systems include wiring, plumbing, all new fixtures, as well as central heating and air conditioning. The kitchen includes new Legacy maple cabinets, range, dishwasher, and center island. A "fleur-de-lis" stained glass window, a Millennium trademark, highlights the first floor 1/2 bath.

Exposed brick on the stairway leads to the spacious two-bedroom, two-bath second floor, with a big bonus laundry room, designed for maximum convenience. New fixtures, cherry cabinetry, and cultured marble sinks and vanity top highlight the baths, which also have stained glass windows. Each bedroom has either a walk-in closet or a full wall of closets. New insulated-glass windows have been installed throughout the house, with historic replica wood windows on the front of the house.

Each house has a new 2-car garage, new 20-year rubberized roofing system, walk-out basement, privacy fence, landscaping, rear deck, and many more builder extras, including alarm system, high efficiency A/C and furnace and much more. The houses were developed with the assistance of the St. Louis Community Development Administration, and both Missouri State Bank and Southwest Bank provided construction lending for this project. Both houses are listed at $ 149,000 and carry ten-year tax abatement. More details will be available at the site.

Tower Grove East Neighborhood is conveniently located near the South Grand shopping area and adjacent to Tower Grove Park, with many recreational opportunities. Close to the St. Louis University Hospitals, Tower Grove East has one of the most active neighborhood associations in the area, regularly participating in such events as Fair St. Louis and home of two beautiful community gardens. The City of St. Louis' Community Development Administration has worked with 9th Ward Alderman Ken Ortmann, neighborhood residents, DeSales Housing Corporation, and private developers to plan future development and has already completed over $ 3.2 Million reinvestment in this part of the Tower Grove East neighborhood.

The houses at 2921 and 2925 Michigan will be open today from 12:00-4:00 p.m., or check out City Cable 16's new show featuring City Neighborhoods and the current "House of the Month".
