Sweet Choice

New home in Maple Acres
is one of 25 built in West End
By Kevin Montgomery-Smith

The placement of Valentine's Day in the middle of February is strikingly apropos. When else would the benefit of candy hearts, a loving smile, or a quiet dinner without the kids be so great? Notwithstanding the groundhog's prediction, ever so quietly the long winter is ending, a hint of spring is in the air, and Valentine's Day marks the turning point. A time like this is perfect for making big decisions, like buying a house and making a home. So in the spirit of renewal, here's a development from the heart for February, the month of chocolate, roses and the promise of spring.

The City Spotlight for February is the new Maple Acres development in the West End neighborhood. Phase I of the development consists of 25 homes with the potential for several more phases in the future. The homes are a modern urban design with three or four bedrooms and start at $130,000 to $142,750. The properties will be open today (Sunday ) from noon until 3 p.m. Each home comes with standard features that include everything today's new homebuyer expects, including: energy efficient construction methods and materials with thermo vinyl windows, efficient gas furnace and central air conditioning, stove/range, built-in microwave, garbage disposal, gas fireplaces, and large bedrooms. The homes also come with a two-car detached garage and walk-out front porch.

Maple Acres, February 2001 House of the Month

Located in the up and coming West End neighborhood, homes in the Maple Acres development are located within minutes of shopping in University City, dinner and a movie in the Central West End and work downtown. The new homes also benefit from a $2,000 buyer's incentive provided by the Community Development Administration for qualified closing costs and a 10-year real estate tax abatement.

The development was made possible by the partnership of the West End Community Conference, Alderman Irving Clay, WECC Director, Marie Fowler, Maple Acres LLC, the Community Development Administration, and Missouri State Bank. Homes are listed with Mary "One" Johnson of Gundaker Realty. For more information on this project, call Mary at 314-367-8755, ext. 232 or Maple Acres LLC, at 314-367-5650.
