  • Widened sidewalks allow safer intersection crossing patterns.

Constraints

  • Widening sidewalks requires relocation of some utilities, curbs, parking meters, signage, hydrants, etc.

MARKET SQUARE / PARKS

Opportunities

  • Square provides "green" relief from the urban street
  • Opportunity to design a creative screen / edge along the back of sidewalk, perhaps combining built form with special plant material.

Constraints

  • Open square facing onto Washington Avenue breaks down built streetwall
  • Two building facades on St. Charles Street facing the Square are backdoor facades with service docks
