Leisure and Recreation

During transition planning, it is easy to forget about your recreation and leisure time needs. Being involved in recreation activities keeps you healthy in mind and body. Think about how much money you want to spend on hobbies and interests, and plan that into your budget. There are plenty of agencies that provide specialized programs for persons with disabilities, and some that help you be included in programs for all adults regardless of their ability of disability.

The Recreation Council of Greater St. Louis prints a "Guide to Leisure Services," which gives a comprehensive, descriptive listing of recreation activities in the St. Louis area. Services listed comprise both those specifically designed for people with disabilities , as well as programs for the general public that include people with disabilities.

Supplementing the guide are free quarterly newsletters published for city and county residents.
