The neighborhood is defined by Manchester on the North, I-44 on the South, Hampton on the East, City Limits on the West. There is easy access to I-44; I-55; Highway 40 and downtown St. Louis. Public transportation is also easily accessible.

Neighborhood Meetings

The Ellendale Neighborhood Assocation holds regular monthly meetings at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month, September through June. Meetings are held at the Wilkinson School at 7212 Arsenal. Open to the public.

Institutions

The Ellendale neighborhood is primarily a commercial neighborhood. The River Des Peres, the Principal Union Pacific Railroad and the Burlington Northern Railroad transverse this area.

Characteristics

The character of Ellendale has changed. At one time it was an industrial manufacturing center; now it has been converted into commercial and office development. The redevelopment of the former Scullin Steel site into St. Louis Marketplace, a complex of large discount stores and services, is the most notable change.

The Ellendale neighborhood is primarily single family dwellings. Housing size varies from small starter homes to larger dwellings. Structures are primarily of frame construction but brick structures do exist throughout the neighborhood. Approximately two-thirds of the homes in the neighborhood are owner-occupied.
