Dear Forest Park Southeast Community Council Member:

We have all shared the unique experience of organizing citizens to work together for the benefit of the neighborhood. This work has not always been easy, but our dedication to improving our community and achieving success have driven us to remain actively involved in our Community Council. This commitment is not to be overlooked or taken lightly. When people put their time and energy into a process they deserve to enjoy the benefit of their efforts. Unfortunately, that has not always happened. Too often, the Council has been a source of frustration for those who are sincere about doing positive and progressive work in Forest Park Southeast. It is for this reason that many of us believe that certain changes must be made in order to keep the spirit of our hard work alive.

Although the Community Council has accomplished much, the model on which it was formed is not the most effective way to make good things happen in our community. Too often the Council is tied up with personal disagreements and in-fighting to effectively address community issues. We need a new formula for working together in Forest Park Southeast. Committees and neighborhood groups should be allowed to work towards shared goals without the dissention [sic] that has plagued our Council meetings. It is for this reason that we would like to dissolve the Council and regroup. Our new steps toward rebuilding will show the community that we are serious about our commitment to improve life for everyone in Forest Park Southeast. If will also show those who are interested in working with us that we are capable and willing to work as a cohesive unit.

Change is always met with resistance, but in this case, change is necessary. We need to get back to the heart of our work and leave the negativity that has crippled our Council behind us. We need your support to reorganize and rejuvenate [sic] our community. Please sign the enclosed form to resign from the council. Make your dissatisfaction with the direction that the council has been headed in, known. Your resignation will empower all of us to move forward and lead our community in a more effective way. Serena Muhammad has agreed to answer any questions you may have concerning this issue. You can reach her at 652-7406. Thank you for your time and careful consideration.

Sincerely,
Your Neighbors
