Present
-
Sonda Thompson, acting president presiding. Nine persons present,
plus guests Mike Eggleston and Don DeVivo.
-
4500 Chouteau parking
-
Sonda reported that residents of 4500 Gibson were concerned about people
outside the neighborhood using the street for parking during the day.
The block neighbors met and brainstormed about possible solutions.
-
Home safety repair loans
-
Mike Eggleston, the insurance coordinator for Beyond Housing /
Neighborhood Housing Services, talked abut services offered. A safety
program will be on March 26 with free smoke detectors and fire
extinguishers. Also free home safety evaluation will be available. Those
who opt for the evaluation will get a free hard-wired detector (not
battery dependent except when power is off), a $300 value. The safety
program will include a presentation by a home insurance agent.
Eggleston's program offers help to first-time home buyers and home
safety repair loans for owner-occupants. FPSE is a targeted area. The
interest rate is either 2 or 4 percent, depending on income. He noted
that Sustainable Neighborhood loans are 5 percent and that a Seventeenth
Ward fund exists but "shrinking funds."
For information, call 533.0600, ext. 102.
-
Brightside
-
"Blitz" day for FPSE is Saturday, March 29.
More block captains are needed. Sonda will have trash bags available to
the captains for distribution on their block. Flowers for planting will
be available later. One problem noted was excess yard waste in the 4500
alley between Oakland and Arco. Norma Conley is working on it and suggested
a way is needed to make people aware of proper use of the trash and yard
waste dumpsters.

Neighborhood listening / inreach

Neighbors are invited to help make connections in the neighborhood. A
goal is to have 30 people who will each talk with five more. The
remaining training session will be Monday, March 24, from 6:30 to 8:15
p.m. at Adams Community Center. Contact person: Katie Jansen, 533.0552.
-
April meeting, NOT!
-
Sonda suggested that an April meeting would not be necessary and updates
could be provided at the May meeting. Upon unanimous approval of a
motion, the next meeting will be Tuesday, May 20.
