The Gibson Heights Neighborhood includes 10 blocks: 4500 and 4400 Choteau, Gibson, Arco, and Oakland; 4500 Wichita and Cadet; S. Taylor between Choteau and Manchester; and S. Kingshighway between 40 and Manchester. At association meetings, members discuss issues that affect the residents of the neighborhood as well as city-wide issues. These issues include the redevelopment plans for the neighborhood, human services in the neighborhood, youth programs, the planning of special neighborhood events, and crime reports. It is a wonderful way for residents to work together for the betterment of their neighborhood and to achieve common goals in their neighborhood's redevelopment.

- The new bus shelter at Sarah and Manchester features Angie Renner, Henry Shaw, Engine House 29, and Ujamaa Maktaba; Rebuilding Together (formerly Christmas in April) is accepting applications; a meeting to work on the "Good Neighbor Network" will be on December 10; free dusk-to-dawn lights are available to seniors; and the Housing Corporation will celebrate its Twenty-Fifth Anniversary on December 11.

- Free art classes have started at the Potter's Workshop; November should see occupancy of the first Park East rental unit; Neighborhood Housing Services has a $35,000 grant for home repairs; Richard Baron requested a seat on the Housing Corporation board; and Metropolitan Congregations United is planning to present an agenda for economic development, health care, and education at an October 27 public meeting.

- Dusk-to-dawn lights available for senior home owners, health care "Call for Action" secheduled, and Liz Robinson is about business and the neighborhood.

- Computer classes are available, progress is made on the historic district nomination, and Linda Stochl opens Best Friends (a used-book / pet-supply shop) at Chouteau and Taylor.

- July 2001
- There is progress at Triangle Park and the site of the new assisted living center. Also, heat relief is availale, a new bakery is in the neighborhood, and Chuck Tyler is the executive director of the Adams Park Community Center.

- Members received free fire extinguishers and fire prevention information; Highway 40 reconstruction will include a new footbridge; Chapungu sculptures at Shaw's garden embody the depth and wisdom of an ancient African culture; Marti Hamilton began work as the Main Street Program Manager; and Kellie Shelton is the new Housing Coordinator at the Community Development Corporation.
