Gibson Heights Neighborhood News, November, 2000
You still have time to vote:
That's right! The election of Gibson Heights officers will be at the November meeting. So come on out and bring another neighbor along!
We'll cross that bridge when. . . :
President Sonda Thompson will meet with Central Institute of the Deaf representatives on November 21, just before the neighborhood meeting. Sonda will have the latest news about when the footbridge across Highway Forty will reopen.
Other Highway Forty stuff:
The interchange at Kingshighway will be redesigned as part of the long range improvement of the highway from Tower Grove out into the county. NSO Brian Wilson serves on a planning committee. Get information from and give input to Brian at the meeting.
Crime news:
In October the police raided the "junk yard" on the 4500 block of Manchester, recovering trailer loads of stolen property. Early in November, three drug arrests were made in the 4500 block of Wichita as a SCAT team was active in the neighborhood. Thefts have been a problem lately at the construction and rehab sites in the neighborhood. Do yourself and the neighborhood by a service by calling 911 right away whenever you see something out of line. You can call and still "keep out of it" by telling the operator you do not want the police to come to the house or even telephone you. But the police need information before they know where they are needed.
Who's Who in Gibson Heights
Louise Lears is a new north-of-Manchester representative to the Community Council. She lives in the 4500 block Chouteau, works at the Center for Theology and Social Analysis at 1077 South Newstead, and is an active member of St. Cronan Catholic Church. She has participated in the neighborhood strategic planning process for the past four years and is committed to enhancing the quality of life in FPSE.
Kate Reese was elected as one of the Gibson Heights representatives on the FPSE Housing Corporation. Kate has lived in the neighborhood for over eight years. She and her husband converted a 2-family building into a single unit, doing much of the work themselves. She worked for the Housing Corporation for nine years as the executive director and currently works at Neighborhood Housing Services of St. Louis as its executive director.
Kellie Shelton was selected to fill Meredith Glicksman's position as a representative of Gibson Heights on the FPSE Community Council. Kellie has lived in the 4500 block of Gibson for five years, moving to the neighborhood from Kirkwood after she graduated from college. She works as the office manager for a small business, which makes her a Jill of All Trades. Theater and drama are special interests for Kellie -- she wouldn't mind being a Thespian of All Trades.
