Custom, legend, and culture in stone
-
The Chapungu sculpture exhibit will continue at
the Missouri Botanical (Shaw's) Garden through
October 7. Admission to the garden is free to city
residents on Wednesday and Saturday mornings,
when the gates open at 7 a.m.
The sculptures hand carved by the Shona people
of Zimbabwe embody the depth and wisdom of an
ancient African culture and way of life. The themes
are family and community, living in harmony with
nature, custom and legend, village life, the spiritual
world, and the roles of women and elders. Go see it;
better yet, go see it with your family.

to submit comments and suggestions. Further
information is available from the project manager,
