Area median income and "fair market rent"
- The area median income is calculated by the the federal Housing
and Urban Development department (HUD). Those calculations define
"low income housing" and set income limits for eligibility for
federally subsidized housing programs. Here are HUD's
FY 2000 and 2001 limits, with definitions
of income categories such as "low income."

The ReStore sells quality used and surplus building materials at a
fraction of retail prices. Proceeds fund the construction of Habitat

- Community Land Trust (CLT)

"Take a stand, own the land," was the rallying cry of Roxbury, MA
residents as they organized against illegal dumping. They formed
a democratically controlled community land trust, known as the
Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative. In St. Louis, a
