Status of some of the Sustainable Neighborhoods

The neighborhood cabinet met on Monday, March 26, 2001, at 3:30 p.m., at ARCHS. Attendance: Interim co-chair Anna Ginsburg, B.J. Cothran, Michael Burns, Shirley Wallace, George Jones, and Bob Babione. Staff: Veronica Banks. Veronica indicated that an announcement would be forthcoming regarding low-interest housing loans. For details about what is required for neighborhoods to apply for the program, call Cassandra at 534.7119. Apparently the four co-chairs of ARCHS' Sustainable Neighborhood Committee do meet or at least confer with one another. The committee as a whole has not met recently. The ARCHS board approved the plan for the "transition" of integrating ARCHS and Caring Communities. The board will not have a meeting in March. Shirley reported that the near southside cluster has been organized for some time, with meetings of representatives from all four neighborhoods. They are just beginning to draft their plan. She noted that it seems that information is not available about what is going on and what funds might be available in ARCHS, Sustainable Neighborhoods, and so on. Veronica agreed that she could provide copies of FPSE's Annie Casey grant. George and Bob reported at length on the history of FPSE, its constitution and plan, the current status of the council, and the duties of the neighborhood facilitator. Anna and Veronica said that it was imprortant to bring situations to the attention of ARCHS staff. George noted that census data is available at CIN: FPSE had a 13 percent decrease from 1990 to 2000. The next meeting will be on Monday, April 23, 2001, at 3:30. |
