The Neighborhood Cabinet meeting, June 25, 2001

Present:
Members Anna Ginsburg, Shirley Wallace, Michael Burns, Katie Borders, Bob Babione, and Pamela Boyd; staff Veronica Banks and Marsha Bonds, Welfare-to-Work Coordinator.
Funding-cut letter:
Anna reported that in accord with further developments and advice from Khatib Waheed, it would be better to wait on sending any letter to the ARCHS Board or to the Family and Community Trust (FACT) Board. Anna distributed a revised draft and requested comments.
Welfare-to-Work:
Marsha Bonds outlined issues as the five-year limitation on benefits was running out, with only one more year remaining. The city has 1,100 pending cases that face the deadline. The current focus of efforts is threefold: (1) community-based mentoring; (2) faith-based mentoring; and (3) substance abuse prevention and treatment. A central concern is how to get participation by the people affected. Bob noted that generating grass roots participation was "the nut to crack." Bonds asked each neighborhood to make suggestions for their neighborhood.
Short Term Success Application:
Veronica distributed copies of an application of a ``School Agenda Program'' for $85,738.85.

Respectfully submitted,
Bob Babione
Forest Park Southeast representative
