- New implementation schedule
-
Don Bell announced a schedule for implementation of neighborhood plans
at a "Neighborhood Leadership Team Cabinet" meeting on October 28,
2002. Bell is the president of the Sustainable Neighborhoods Development
Office (SNDO). That office is connected to ARCHS and RHCDA.
Bell said that SNDO recognizes that the nine sustainable neighborhoods
are at different stages. SNDO expects, however, all neighborhoods
to consider strengthening their leadership teams as necessary, to
set priorities, and to submit forms that will:
-
identify four neighborhood contacts (who will get notice of further
meetings);
-
identify plan priorities for economic development, housing, human services,
and other projects; and
-
describe three priority projects.
The activities are to be completed and submitted by January 16, 2003,
in time for an Action Council meeting scheduled a few days later.
(SNDO had set the dates in December but the persons at the meeting
asked for an additional month.)
Bell said the Action Council and SNDO will work to support projects
that:
-
are doable, "really possible";
-
are "not just one-shot and forgotten," but multi-sector and holistic;
-
have multiple beneficiaries;
-
work in more than one neighborhood; and
-
offer local participation with matching funds.
In response to questions about resident participation in the Action
Council, Bell said that the decision is to be by SNDO's board. He
pledged that he would personally support including residents on the
council.
- Implementaition training
-
Bell also announced further training programs. They include offerings
by the CORO Foundation and by the JonyMack Group. Both will do assessments
before beginning their training sessions. Leslie Jones of CORO said
the starting date for the program would be March, 2003, with the target
set of 15 participants from each neighborhood. Initially, training
will be for FPSE, Jennings, Wellston, and the South City cluster.
Jony Mack said his efforts would focus on training for implementation
rather than training for planning.
