The Neighborhood Cabinet of the
Sustainable Neighborhoods Initatiative

   The Neighborhood Cabinet is designed to be made up of representatives from neighborhoods who can inform the ARCHS board about the well being of families and their neighborhoods and identify priorities and strategies. The cabinet has two member from each of the eight sustainable neighborhoods and eight at large members. It meets at the ARCHS Office, 4236 Lindell, Suite 400, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month.

   The acting cabinet co-chairs are John Windom and Anna Ginsburg. Windom is the St. Louis Board of Education's Executive Director of Community Education. Ginsburg is the director of St. Louis's Neighborhood Stabilization Office.

   The ARCHS staff person assigned to the cabinet is Veronica Banks. The FPSE representatives to the cabinet are George J. Jones, Jr., and Bob Babione.

 
 
March 27, 2002 Board meeting
Topics at the meeting included: naming a new executive director; legislative effort regarding the state budget; and strategic planning, with changes in board operations and committees.
Editorial comment: not much appears to have happened in this interval as few people attend the cabinet meetings and the board has struggled with the emergencies of budget cuts, the resignation of the executive director, and the Caring Communities - Sustainable Neighborhoods relationship.
September 26, 2001 Board meeting
The FY 2002 adjusted budget will be about two-thirds of the originally approved budget. The board discussed FACT's draft accountability statement and the integration of Caring Communities and Sustainable Neighborhoods.
September 25, 2001 Cabinet meeting
The Cabinet changed the date of its all-day meeting to October 11, with the starting time and location to be determined and announced.
August 27, 2001 Cabinet meeting
The Cabinet agreed to hold an all-day meeting on its next regular date, September 24. The purpose will be to set the Cabinet's course, given various changes: new FACT requiremnts; new ARCHS Board chair; restructuring of Board committees; and Robin Gierer's resignation. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at 2100 Cherokee (member Shirley Wallace's work place).
August 22, 2001 Board meeting
Topics at the meeting included: Robin Gierer's resignation, the health "Call to Action," Caring Communities/ Sustainable Neighborhoods Initiative integration, FACT's draft on accountability, initiative updates, and a special report about Caring Communities.
July 23, 2001 cabinet meeting
The Cabinet resolved to write to Governor Holden, Department Directors, and Legislators in an effort to moderate the funding cuts for Caring Communites and ARCHS. The letter emphasized that further cuts would betray the volunteers and donors who believed Missouri would heed local direction for state services. Full text here.
June 27, 2001 board meeting
Topics at the meeting included: balances in accounts as the end of the fiscal year neared; changes because of funding cuts and policy redirection at FACT; a new meeting schedule; and presumptive eligibility of children for medical care.
June 25, 2001 cabinet meeting
Topics at the meeting included: delay in any letter regarding funding cuts and welfare-to-work issues.
June 8, 2001 emergency meeting
The Neighborhood Cabinet held an emergency planning meeting concerning Caring Communities (CC) funding.
April 23, 2001
Lisa Potts gave a report on the status of SNI neighborhoods. Also discussed were various upcoming events.
March 26, 2001
The the apparent lack of information and the status of two of the Sustainable Neighborhoods was disscussed.
February 26, 2001
Two main topics were presented: (1) the data capacities of ARCHS, and (2) the relationship between Caring Communities and ARCHS.

Three issues were discussed: (1) the relationship between Caring Communities and ARCHS; (2) the degree of resident participation in neighborhood leadership teams; and (3) organizational matters.
