Representatives to school-community center

Cate Dolan reported for the School/Community Center. The Adams School/Community Center Board includes Trish Curtis, Edna Campbell and Saundra Moss-representing the FPSE community and Jerry Flance (Wash U. Med Center) Richard Baron, Linda Chavez (?Bank), David Fleigh (SLPS) (may have missed others) Adams Park is being leased to the non-profit organization for $1 per year.

George removed himself as chair of the Council and voiced his opposition to the members representing the community. He felt that since they are no longer active in the Council, the Council would not receive adequate reporting and representation on the school/community center. None of the representatives came to this meeting. Cate Dolan said they were afraid the selection process would go back to square one. She also indicated Trish Curtis is still a member of the Council.

Kim Jayne pointed out that Trish was so close to McCormack Baron, her position made that influence even stronger. Cate Dolan did not know the length of terms for the representatives.

There was also information requested about the community's access to the school and the community center - mainly fences, locks, and security - will computers be available? Cate Dolan was asked to report back and ask the community representatives to attend the next Council meeting.

Rev. Potter suggested drafting a Memorandum of Understanding for the School/Community Center and the non-profit organization.

There was no official vote taken to elect the 3 represetnatives because of a lack of a quorum. Phil Heagney asked for a show of hands in support of the 3 nominees. (5 in favor-3 in support - 4 abstained)

Alderman Joe Roddy spoke about blighting in the Ranken East area stating he had tried to work with Bill Souders in the past but was unable. He felt Bill's property had been an eye sore for years and when requested to put up a fence, did not. A council member stated that when the Draft Plan was approved by the Council last Summer, Mr. Roddy had promised to keep the community informed about any blighting or eminent domain and that many of us felt he was not keeping us informed. Mr. Roddy indicated the Council had been having problems, hadn't had a quorum recently, and he had to move forward.

Mark Norwood reported on a meeting for Parks on March 6 at Metro Ministries at 6pm.

The Executive Committee may reschedule its meeting due to election night.

The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Kim Jayne
