Continuing discussion
safety, policing, race- and class-related issues
The October meeting brought out concerns about safety. The Council will pursue action (not just more talk and venting) to address the race and class issues. Once we are organized for action, we can deal with the safety and policing issues.
Bob's editorial comment: I thank all who spoke up at the September meeting. To me, it was good that, for once, important perceptions came out without being met with put downs. Now we must learn and act to change practices that continue race- and class-based oppression. Once we are clear on our own direction, we can engage the the rest of the community, including the police department. Gandhi said, "Poverty is the worst form of violence." Let us work toward ending the violence of poverty.
