- Discussion
-
Ed Shalabi, owner of Manchester Market, said he wants to stay in the neighborhood if possible. He is waiting to see how things develop, what he will be required to do to the market, what the financing would be, and what will be effect of the new neighborhood population.
The members present discussed the Housing Corporation and the need for affordable housing. Members saw a need for more openness to the rest of the community. The HC has agreed to make copies of agendas and minutes available to Bob, in response to the Council's request.
Members of the HC board said it is necessary to have documentation or a "paper trail" of whatever actions the HC takes. Board members also said it was essential for residents to be present at HC meetings in greater numbers to make sure that the HC does what it is supposed to do. There should be better communication and the Council needs to know what it wants the HC to do. The Council needs to have its act together.
Jobs are necessary for residents. The new MERS person, Esther Williams is believed to be very good and committed. It was suggested that we invite her to the next Council meeting to make a presentation.
In relation to setting what the Council wants for affordable housing and whether the Council needs to get 501(c)(3) status, George Jones, Don DeVivo, Bill Sauders, and Dan Scott formed a committee to work out details.
