FPSE Community Council discussed plans for priority funding requests to the Sustainable Neighborhoods Development Office; Don Bell, SNDO president, attended and explained the need fro concrete proposals based on the neighborhood's plan. Ester Williams reported funding cuts for the MERS employment effort. Pastors and representatives of neighborhood churches explained their efforts and plans.

   December 10: Good Neighbor Network meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Adams Center for linking block leaders for community projects
   December 11: Housing Corporation's 25th Anniversary from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at JaBoni's, Tower Grove and Manchester (tickets are $25.00.)
   December 17: General neighborhood celebration and meeting jointly sponsored by NCT and Community Council to determine priorities in areas of economic development, housing, and human services. Projects should be doable and related to the overall neighborhood plan.
   January 11, 2003: Forum and workshop sponsored by the Regional Response Coalition to discuss community norms regarding violence and law enforcement. Free. Workshops and lunch. Further information from Saundra Moss, 633.7900, X 101. See an earlier report about the coalition's plans.
October minutes
   The October 22 minutes were approved as amended to include Bob's comments on the redevelopment of Westminster Place led by Richard Baron. See the minutes and the comments.
MERS funding
   Esther Williams of MERS sat shat her funding was ending November 30 and she hoped it would be renewed. She felt she had accomplished quite a bit in helping get residents trained and employed. There have been good reports about her activities. He phone is 633.7925. She has an employment guide in the lobby of Adams Center and she runs a program called "Dress for Success." for individuals coming out of shelters who do not have clothing. She has applied to ARCHS for $50,000 but ARCHS has suffered a big cut in funds. Esther has information about the Metropolitan Education and Training Center in Wellston which offers GED programs and prepares people for entering the construction trades. Open Forum
   Rev. Rick Russell, Associate Pastor, Lighthouse Free Methodist Church The church is in partnership with Lighthouse Outreach Center. Ten students from Greenville College will come to Lighthouse and live in the neighborhood. The students will work in the neighborhood and provide services of the church while they pursue their studies.Lightohuse recently found a home for a FSE resident who was evicted from her apartment.
   Fr. Gerry Kleba, Pastor, St. Cronan Catholic Church The church will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2003. Fr. Kleba sensed fragmentation in FPSE and said he wanted to people and groups together. He noted that his earlier work in two North St. Louis parishes provided him with contacts who could be helpful in FPSE.
   Roy Lee, representing Rev. James Potter of Agape House Agape House offers many things to the community in addition to being a home for men recovering from addictions. For example, Agape offers computer classes on Monday and Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., and aerobics classes.
   Barbara Landrum, member of the Church of the Nazarene The church has a food pantry and prepares food for Larry Rice's shelter. The pastor is Rosie Moore. The church building needs repair.
   Don DeVivo, speaking for Gibson Heights Presbyterian Don noted that the church offers Bible Study on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m., as well as Sunday services at 10 a.m. Membership has declined in recent years and the church needs strategies to help the church stay viable.
   Tony Collins, Wells Fargo Bank Collins is the renovation sales manager for the bank. He is involved in helping FPSE with mortgages and home renovation. His voice mail number is 506.2746. Presently the bank is supporting renovation of four FPSE properties.
   Don Bell, president, Sustainable Neighborhood Development Office (SNDO) Bell reported that the plans are almost completed for all of the nine sustainable neighborhoods. Specific projects from each neighborhood will be considered at a meeting January 16, 2003, at 5:30 p.m., at ARCHS, 4236 Lindell, Room 400.
Social-Economic Development Committee
   After discussion of some of the challenges in the neighborhood, George Jones asked for and obtained permission from the Council to form a Social-Economic Development Committee to try to create a company to fix homes in FPE, provide construction jobs to neighborhood residents, and make these homes affordable.
