Announcements
-
The giveaway of free school supplies to FPSE children was very successful at Lighthouse Church. Also the church is looking for an Executive Director of the Outreach Center. The Church would like to be available to groups in the community.
-
The last day of the Market at the Community Center: September 28th.
-
On October 28th at 6:00 there will be a "summit meeting" at the Community Center. The monthly meeting of the FPSE Council will not be held in October. The summit meeting will be conducted by the Development Corporation.
-
Brian Phillips is no longer the interim director of Adams Community Center.
-
Development Corporation - Community Center relationship
-
The impression is that Alderman Roddy favors a merger between the Community Center and the Development Corporation. It is also the impression that Richard Baron wants that. Some wondered if that was to keep the Community Center viable and others wondered if that was consolidating too much power in groups which already have too much.
-
It was stated that FPSE still has no job program for the residents.
-
There was a discussion of the fact that the Development Corporation and the Community Center are "self selected" in their boards so that they are not really representative of the residents of the community who don't have direct input into their decisions.
-
Health program funding
-
Pam Talley for the Ranken Health Center interviewed with the Lutheran Foundation for additional funding for the Community Health Nurse in FPSE. The motion was made and passed that if it wasn't, forthcoming that application should be made to other foundations.
-
Housing rehabilitation
-
Don DeVivo made a presentation about several houses he would like to rehab in the neighborhood. He also distributed a petition to sign asking for two buildings to be demolished which are vacant and have been condemned.
-
Don asked for the Council to write a letter supporting the plan for his corporation to rehab 4463 Norfolk. Passed.
-
Joan talked of the problem of making houses lead safe when there would then be little e money left from the Strategic Home Repair Program to fix anything else in the home. This is a problem that the City seems to be trying to deal with by having a consultant from Baltimore advise them on how to fashion their lead poisoning program.
