   A meeting to set the foundation of a plan to address the safety and security issues in the neighborhood with commitments from the Police Deptartment, the Neighborhood Justice Program a.k.a Circuit Attorney's Office, the Neighborhood Stabilization Office, Probation and Parole Office, Youth Initiative, as well as caring residents, stakeholders, and youth.

Irving Blue reported on the name change of the Security Task Force to the Public Safety Committee and on the Assessment / Planning form the DC is using in preparation for its October 28 Summit Meeting.   H&EDCorp Housing Committee meeting: co-chair Joe Lautner asked about past minutes and requested regular recording and approval of minutes; plans for a 17-building "low-moderate" rehab project in the 4200 and 4300 blocks North of Manchester; concern for deteriorating building at 4202 Chouteau; discussion of changing ownership of Jack Kraus properties south of Manchester; agreement to a parking variance for 1017-19 S. Boyle; presentation by Bellington agents who say they are moving to holding strategies instead of original flipping strategy; discussion of committee structure as a board member representing a neighborhood is to be chair; and George Jones volunteers to be one of the co-chairs.   The Community Council's agenda included resident participation in selecting the H&EDCorp's new executive director, connections among neighbors through an inreach effort and block directories, and plans for housing affordable to current residents South of Manchester.   Gibson Heights Neighborhood Association nominated Lara Thiel of the 45xx Wichita as its new representative to the H&EDCorp board and designated René Morency (also of 45xx Wichita) as its representative to the safety steering committee.

  Community Council meeting agenda included a report on the funding priorities ballot, SNDO's meeting on priorities held January 16. The Council adopted a motion to encourage continued diversification of the Housing and Economic Development Corporation board. Steve Parish, the new security coordinator discussed his plans.   Report on the ballot to set priorities for the new fund raising efforts of the Sustainable Neighborhoods Development Office (SNDO). Volunteers from the Lighthouse Free Methodist congregation tabulated the ballots and reported the results; here is the ballot with rankinigs and scores.

   The Regional Response Coalition's community forum on crime and violence was held at the Adams Center. The purpose of the forum was to build better relationships, coalitions, and understandings about how the criminal justice system works. The discussion centered on community norms and how those norms affect drug use, violence, and crime. See an earlier report on the Regional Response Coalition's efforts.

  Residents, staff, and representatives of organizations met regarding funding priorities for the Sustainable Neighborhoods Development Office. The Neighborhood Coordination Team and the Community Council jointly sponsored the celebration and general meeting with this agenda.

  The Housing Corporation celebrated its 25th Anniversary and held its second annual Mainstreet fund raiser at JaBoni's Restaurant, 4301 Manchester Avenue (northwest corner of Tower Grove). JaBoni's is scheduled to open in mid January.

  A meeting to introduce the "Forest Park Southeast Good Neighbor Network" initiative. According to Rick Bonasch of Metropolis, the purpose of the network is to create a neighborhood-wide network of community leaders at the block level to organize neighborhood events, cleanup projects, block parties, neighborhood directories, and so on.   FPSE Community Council discussed plans for priority funding requests to the Sustainable Neighborhoods Development Office; Don Bell, SNDO president, attended and explained the need for concrete proposals based on the neighborhood's plan. Esther Williams reported funding cuts for the MERS employment effort. Pastors and representatives of neighborhood churches explained their efforts and plans.
