Property Management Program a Success in FPSE

The Residential management Services (RMS) property management program had a successful first year in the Forest Park Southeast neighborhood. A component of the Washington University Joint Community Development Program, the RMS program provides landlords with affordable, professional property management.

Sixteen landlords representing 122 units currently are participating in the program. The success of the Residential Management Services program is largely due to the work of Sue Lauritsen, a professional property manager and Forest Park Southeast resident. Sue balances the interests of both tenants and landlords by taking a hands-on approach with the properties she manages.

Sue and the RMS program offer a full range of property management services that can be tailored to the individual properties and landlords. Landlords who choose to participate in the program are eligible to receive a forgivable loan of up to $1,000 per unit for repairs and/or deferred maintenance to their properties. Landlords are required to match the amount of the loan they receive. Thirty forgivable loans totaling $87,000 were administered during the past year and matching funds from landlords totaled more than $103,000.

The RMS program is an important facet of the revitalization efforts in FPSE. As RMS begins its second year, the program will continue to provide professional management services to landlords and persist in its efforts to increase the availability of attractive and affordable rental units in the neighborhood.
