Washington Montessori School
Parents of the pre-school and elementary school aged children have three choices within the neighborhood boundaries.
Marshall, the neighborhood public school located at Newstead and Dr. Martin Luther King, has a population of approximately 350 students who walk to school. Some of the students are bussed to Cote Brilliante, another public school just a few blocks away on Cora Avenue. A strong, focus on high academic achievement, leadership development, and cultural pride permeate noticeably throughout the schools.
Some of the neighborhood children (Pre-school through grade 5) are students at two of the popular, St. Louis Public, (Magnet) Schools- Euclid and Washington Montessori- which are located in the area. Many families throughout the metropolitan area apply to send their children to this greatly desired , free, public Montessori school because of its strong reputation for quality, hands on educational experiences for children. The curriculum incorporates the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori.
West Side Christian Academy, the parochial school in the area, offers a quality program for children, preschool through grade 5. Their program also offers a strong component of teaching Christian and moral values. Some members of the West Side Church, residents of the neighborhood and other areas attend this school.
