About Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is an information management system with the additional capability of viewing information spatially - that is, to make maps. Desktop GIS has become an integral part of many fields and recent developments are making interactive GIS maps available over the Internet. This advancement in GIS technology will give Internet users another tool in collecting, viewing, and analyzing all sorts of informtion.

Being able to view information graphically often makes it easier to grasp and allows you to see spatial trends that might not otherwise be apparent.
