Forest Park Area Map

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry has filled the lake that surrounds the Pagoda Circle. It has been drained for two years while the area was rebuilt under the Forest Park Master Plan.

The area now has new roads, bridges and the area was landscaped by the Parks Department and the Flora Conservancy, a group of volunteer gardeners. The Flora Conservancy carried out a landscaping project for Pagoda Circle developed by Oehme, van Sweden and Associates, saving the City of St. Louis hundreds of thousands of dollars. More than 27,800 perennials were planted by four teams of four gardeners during a four day planting period. Maintenance is done twice a week.

Their work was acknowledged in a garden contest sponsored by the Post-Dispatch that awarded the planting of Pagoda Circle first place in the "Best Group or Community Garden" category.

Work is still continuing in Forest Park to connect the major lakes. Pagoda Circle will be part of that system when it is completed but now it is a freestanding lake.

Construction included:
• Connecting Pagoda Lake with Angel Pond to form a section of the linear connected water system.

• Construction of three bridges, two vehicular and one pedestrian, to provide sufficient access to all institutions and places of interests.

¥ Construction of improved roads around the circle and installation of special pavement in front of The Muny.

• Upgrade infrastructure including utilities, irrigation and site furnishings.

• Aesthetic upgrade of the area includes trees, lawns, decorative lights, ornamental landscape and signs.
