LOCATION
The area is bounded by Natural Bridge to Evans and Vandeventer to Marcus.
INSTITUTIONS
The neighborhood is home to several religious institutions, the Lovejoy Missionary Baptist Church, the Presbyterian Church and Immanuel Lutheran church are but a few examples of the strong spiritual element of this community. Immanuel Lutheran has a long history for community outreach, whose scope is both local as well as international.
In the early 80's the church was the only "safe haven" in the area for Central American refugees. Now, the church has an active and successful prisoner visitation and parolee program.
Cote Brilliante, Farragut Elementary School, William's Community and Hickey Middle School offers convenient and accessible education to area children. Furthermore, the area benefits greatly from the neighboring institutions in the Penrose, O' Fallon and the Ville neighborhoods.
CHARACTERISTICS
Considered the heart of North St. Louis, the Greater Ville is an are settled in the mid 1800's by African-Americans, Germans, and Irish Immigrants. This diversity is reflected in the mix of brick bungalows, small frame cottages, and multi-unit brick apartment buildings. Non-rehabbed homes built between 1900 and 1930 can be purchased at very reasonable prices. The area contains well maintained rehabilitated homes as well as properties ripe for redevelopment.
