What is RSS

RSS = Really Simple Syndication

RSS is an easy way to keep up with the latest news online.

RSS lets you know when a web site is updated, as long as that site has an "RSS feed."

To sign up for an RSS feed, you need something called a "news reader." This is a piece of software that checks RSS feeds and lets you read any new articles that have been added to them.

Some news readers are accessible via a web browser. Others are downloaded as a new program on your computer. The Mozilla Firefox web browser can be used as a news reader.

One kind of news reader is your My Yahoo! home page. If you have a Yahoo! e-mail account, you can easily create a My Yahoo! page. Find other news readers.

RSS is a kind of XML (eXtensible Markup Language). Most sites have one of the following icons to let you know you can sign up for an RSS feed:
