Crime Alerts

There are some activities occurring in the district that we would like your help with.

First an individual has surfaced once again who is preying upon the trusting nature of folks and is asking for money.  This time he asks for $20 to pay for a babysitter.  He often knows something about the person whose door he knocks on or someone else in the area to give him some credibility.  This guy is a fake and is trying to take your money.  He is committing a crime called “Stealing by Deceit”. He has surfaced in the 5500 block of Mardel and in the 4200 block of Arsenal in District Three.

He is described as a white male, 30’s having reddish hair and a slim build.  He has been identified by name, however until warrants are issued by the Circuit Attorney’s Office, his name can not yet be posted.

Please do not believe this individual or anyone else who asks for cash to pay a babysitter, pay a tow truck or for any other reason.  These are almost always a scam.

Secondly, our district, along with the First District, has recently encountered a few late night business burglaries where a window is smashed and entrance is gained. These have often been gas stations and two nail salons.  Please be diligent in securing any business funds when closing at night and be aware of any activity near businesses after closing.

Remember never hesitate to contact 911 or the Second District.

Thank you for your assistance.

Property Thefts

All,

As many may have heard there were a number of home decorate outdoor flags stolen last night in Second and First District neighborhoods.  Three young men ages 17-18 were arrested by Second District officers and a number of flags were recovered.  In addition to the thefts, some damage was done to the flag poles and car windows were broken with a BB gun.  If you are missing a flag or any other damage to your home or car last night please contact Officer Nancee Nocchiero at 444-0168.

PO Nocchiero will take your name and number and a detective will be contacting you in the next few days.  Once all victims are identified you will be asked to come to the South Patrol Station to identify your flag.  We will need each of you to come in in order to prosecute the persons responsible.

Please pass this along to your neighbors so that all are aware of the arrests and recovery of the flags.  By everyone assisting in the prosecution of these individuals, we will convey a strong message to the suspects and courts.

Thank you and call me if you have any questions.

FUNDRAISING SUCCESS FOR SW CITY DOG PARK : Early Memberships Now Available

Two recent fundraisers have brought the SW City Dog Park closer to construction. A yard sale was held on June 3 with items donated from many residents of South City interested in helping the dog park. Over $1,800 was raised in sales from the yard sale, and over $200 was collected in donations at the sale. On June 16 a trivia night was held in partnership with Stray Rescue of St. Louis, which rescues stray animals in need of medical attention, restores them to health and places them in loving adoptive homes (www.strayrescue.org). The trivia night was nearly a sold out crowd. Approximately $2,300 was raised for the dog park from trivia night admission fees, raffles and 50/50 drawings. Everyone had a great time answering tough trivia while also helping two organizations that benefit dogs in St. Louis , both strays and pets. The SW City Dog Park Committee wishes to thank all those who donated items for the yard sale, shopped at the yard sale, played at trivia night, worked at the yard sale or trivia night, and especially Heather Seitsinger for organizing the yard sale. Dog park funds now total approximately $15,000, which is close to the target amount for fencing for 1.2 acres in Willmore Park . Plans are to open the dog park this Fall.

The dog park is now accepting early memberships, which will help cover costs of other items for the dog park (e.g., trash cans, maintenance, insurance, etc).  Annual fees are as follows:

v     City residents: $50 first dog, $10 each additional dog

v       Southampton Neighborhood Association (SNA) members: $35 first dog, $10 each additional dog. If you live in the Southampton Neighborhood and are not a Neighborhood Association member, consider joining - it's only $10 and will save you money on your dog park membership!

v       Non-city residents: $80 first dog, $10 each additional dog

Application materials can be found on the dog park’s website www.swcitydogpark.org. Complete the application, sign, and mail with your check and a copy of current vaccination records to Southampton Neighborhood Association, ATTN: SW City Dog Park, PO Box 5183 , St. Louis , MO 63139-0183 . You will receive a dog tag and code to enter the dog park before the opening of the dog park. See you at the dog park this Fall!
