About the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act On February 17, 2009, President Barack Obama signed the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (H.R. 1) into law—this bill is now commonly known as “ARRA”. One key purpose of this Act, a nearly $800 billion multi-year investment in the nation's economy, is to create or save 3.5 million jobs over the next two years.
ARRA can help stimulate the City’s economy by supporting initiatives in nine broad areas: transportation and infrastructure, employment and training, public safety, health, energy and sustainability, education, low-income assistance, community development, and arts and communication. More than 100 different programs were funded by ARRA—these programs all have different rules, different deadlines and different reporting requirements.
This website is intended to provide transparency and accountability by allowing residents to track the City’s progress in implementing programs and projects funded by ARRA. The site is intended to be used by interested citizens to understand how ARRA is impacting the City and what it means for City residents.
As information becomes available, this website will be updated with amounts of federal funding received by or on behalf of the City of St. Louis and lists of projects and programs for which funding has been approved.
