St. Louis Brownfields Program
Brownfields are abandoned or underutilized commercial and industrial sites, where redevelopment is complicated by the real or perceived presence of environmental contamination. St. Louis Development Corporation (SLDC) routinely partners with various federal, state, and local units of government, as well as non-profits and private businesses, to breathe new life into Brownfields, turning liabilities into assets. Incentives available from this partnership include sub-grants, low interest loans, grants, and in-kind services.
The City of St. Louis Land Reutilization Authority receives title to many Brownfields through the tax foreclosure process, as the statutory owner-of-last-resort. The team at SLDC applies for and manages grant-funded assessment and cleanup grants provided by the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfields Program, with the goal of facilitating major redevelopment projects, while ensuring that human health and the environment are adequately protected. The team at SLDC has been very successful in securing grants for sites in the City of St. Louis.

Brownfield Success Stories

|
Many sites throughout the City have been redeveloped with the help of Brownfield Grant funds from the Environmental Protection Agency. Funds are used to assess the extent of contamination on the property and, in some cases, to clean up the site.
