Another option for paper items is that some public and private schools participate in a paper-recycling program.  Any resident, business, shop, etc. can divert their paper waste to schools participating in Abitibi's Paper Retriever (formerly Donahue) school paper recycling program (their green and yellow exterior bins, our blue classroom bins), which helps the schools raise funds.  Materials Accepted in Abitibi's green and yellow Paper Retriever bins:  all envelopes, brochures, catalogs, colored paper, computer paper, fax paper, folders, general office paper, junk mail, letterhead, mail, magazines, manila folders, newspapers, notepads, posters, reports, self‑stick notes, and white paper.  Materials Not Accepted in Abitibi's green and yellow bins:  cardboard, food containers or wrap, glass, laminated paper, metal, milk cartons, phone books, plastic of any kind, and tissue products.

For materials that cannot be recycled through the above services or programs, consider donating such items to Leftovers, etc.  This non-profit organization is a “one-stop arts, crafts and science education resource and activity center” where you can drop off household “leftovers” free of charge or pick up supplies (for a small fee).  They reuse a wide variety of items that we cannot recycle, including aluminum pans, CD’s, egg cartons, film canisters, light bulbs, metal juice lids, oatmeal boxes, plastic containers (e.g., cottage cheese, icing, peanut butter, sour cream, yogurt, etc.), Pringles cans, Styrofoam balls and meat, toothbrushes, vinyl, x-ray film, and more.  They’re located at 5404 Gravois Avenue (at Eichelberger Street), St. Louis, Missouri 63116.  Their hours are Mondays, Tuesday, and Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  For more information, you can reach them by phone at (314) 481-8770 or by email at leftoversetc3@aol.com.
