Each year
the SLHNA awards three $600 scholarships to local 8th graders. All
applicants are judged anonymously in the following areas:
More about the scholarship process:
- Applications are given to principals at each of the grade schools in
the neighborhood, both private and public. They are asked to copy and
distribute them to the eighth grade students.
- Applicants must live in St. Louis Hills and their parent(s) must be members of the St. Louis Hills
Neighborhood Association.
- Applications must be received by the Scholarship Committee by the specified deadline.
- Judges are various people in our neighborhood. The number of judges is
approximately three (sometimes a fourth is needed if the outcome looks
close).
- To avoid favoritism, applicant names and addresses are hidden from the judges.
- Each of the five criteria is scored. The judges then list the
applicants in order of preference based on total of those scores.
- Winners are notified with a phone call and a follow-up letter. Those
that did not receive a scholarship are notified with a thank you letter.
- Winners of the scholarships are expected to come to the general
neighborhood association meeting in the fall to be introduced and say a
few words about themselves.
- Scholarships are three one-time $600 scholarships used towards tuition
(or other school necessities if there is no tuition cost).
